Eurasian Hoopoe
(Upupa epops)

Orange crest on the meadow

Hoopoes are unmistakable in the Vrsac region from April to August, feeding on open ground and nesting in banks, walls and old trees. Around the mountains and the surrounding lowlands they bring a touch of the exotic with their crest, pattern and butterfly-like flight. With careful tent placement and quiet waiting, they can give superb ground-level portraits and behaviour shots.

Observed in hides: Summer in tents.
Seasons of observation: Late spring, Early summer.
Probability observed: Medium.
