Syrian Woodpecker
(Dendrocopos syriacus)
The suburban tapper
Blending in where orchards meet rooftops, the Syrian Woodpecker is a charming bird often seen around the foothills of the Vršac Mountains. Unlike its forest-dwelling relatives, it prefers gardens, weekend cottages, and village outskirts. Though not a frequent visitor to our hides, it occasionally appears for a quick snack at the feeding sites. Watchful photographers may catch its soft tapping in quieter corners of the countryside.
Observed in hides: Malo Srediste Woodpecker Hide.
Seasons of observation: Year round.
Probability observed: Medium.
